Precise positioning makes advanced navigation and autonomous driving a reality

Abstract / Contents

Precise positioning is at the heart of the transformation of our navigation system as well as it becomes of paramount importance when more and more advanced autonomous functions are integrated in the vehicle. As such, this presentation provides an overview of the navigation and autonomous vehicle applications that requires more and more precise and trustworthy position of the ego vehicle but also of all the objects in the vicinity. Typical architectures trends seen in the industry and their challenges will be also discussed. A presentation of the technologies that can be used in order to achieve precise position in several environments will be also given in particular focusing on GNSS based positioning, sensor fusion, dead reckoning and augmentation services together with some results that show the performance. Discussion about the importance of specific features related to cybersecurity will be also discussed. We’ll then conclude the presentation by summarizing how those technological evolutions are transforming vehicle navigation solutions and how they are contributing to making autonomous vehicles a reality.
